Albarella is a private island located in the Lagoon South of Venice in the Veneto Regional Park of the Po Delta; it is connected to the mainland by a bridge, and measures 5 Km long and 1.5 m wide. Its name derives from the White Poplar, "Populus Alba", which is one of the150 different species of trees which covers the 528 hectares of the island.
100% of the area, both land and water, is under strict environmental protection. Purchased by the Marcegaglia Group in 1988, Albarella represents one of the most elegant and well-equipped destinations on the Adriatic, conceived as a conservation area where contact with nature, with the free ranging animals - fallow deer, pheasants, hares, herons, marsh hawks, stilt-plovers, egrets tranquility and silence are the most important elements for a stay in total relaxation. Access to the island, characterized by the presence of villas and holiday apartments, two hotels and many sporting and commercial facilities, has always been regulated.
Whoever visits Albarella is immersed in a world and an atmosphere, of total relaxation, as if in another world, where cars remain parked for the duration of the stay, where noise pollution does not exist, where the quality of life is at its highest. On entering the island of Albarella one finds the tourist harbour with its 455 berths from 6 to 25 metres, with concrete pontoons and mooring systems with calibrated wooden mooring piles. For vessels exceeding a length of 7 metres, electricity and water facilities are available. The bed reaches 4 metres above average sea level and the average tidal range is 70 cm.
In 2015 Albarella obtained the "Bandiera Blu" (Blue Flag) awarded by FEE-Foundation for Environmental Education to the seaside resorts which fulfil standards concerning sustainable land management.
