Septem Maria Museum

Septem Maria Museo

The Museum is located in the water-scooping machine room in Amolara, building of the Nineteenth –century in Neo-classic style, planned for “the draining of the consortium Campagna Vecchia Inferiore with water mill wheels moved by a steam-machines”.
A few years after the machine had stopped working, the building was renovated and it became a polyvalent centre with a museum of the history of fluvial civilizations, a workshop for naturalistic engineering research with a conference hall,  and the Amolara hostel to accommodate tourists visiting Adria town and the Po Delta Natural Park.

Museum type / Collections – The Septem Maria is a museum that tells us about water in a building which was built because of water. The name “seven seas” given by the historian, Plinio il Vecchio to this territory, completely  justifies the need for a museum in this area to recall, through documents and photographic material, didactic panels, stories told by the local people and the water-scooping machines exhibited, the history of the reclaiming works of the last century.
