Civic Archeological Musem of Castelnovo Bariano

Museo civico Castelnovo Batiano

The Civic Archaeological Museum of Castelnovo Bariano was inaugurated in September in 1982 with the purpose to develop the culture of the territory and to safeguard its findings. The museum exposes handmade articles from the archaeological sites of Canar (ancient Bronze period XVII century BC), from surface searches carried out in the Middle-Bronze sites in Canova and late bronze in Marola, in the Roman sites of Mondonuovo and Stanghella and finally the Renaissance site in Torretta. The ancient bronze-room exhibits finds of exceptional importance such as crockery, jugs, pitchers, bowls, vases, dated to the Danube-period of Wieselburg-Gata.
The Renaissance-room hosts the painted graffito and glazed ceramics by various Venetian, Emilian, Mantuans, handmade articles made under request of the Duke Borso D’Este, and handmade items of the Venetian Republic.

The exhibition starts from the Renaissance period of Torretta (XIV – XV centuries) then proceeds to the room dedicated to surface excavations that include the Roman, pre-Roman, Late Bronze and Mid-Bronze periods.
It then follows on to the Ancient Bronze period with the results found from the excavations carried out on the pile-dwelling site in Canar.
