This quiet town comes to life during the first and second weekends of July, for the traditional Festa del Grano (wheat festival) a bustling exhibition regarding the typical local crop, with demonstrations of old fashioned wheat threshing, music, games and the chance to sample local dishes such as the flavoursome pork sausage accompanied by smooth polenta or tasty stewed beans, better known as “fasoi in potacin”.  On entering the town, one immediately notices the wall of a house wherein, the 15 October 1944, a terrible massacre took place.  The names of the 43 victims are commemorated in the memorial alongside the house.  Between Villamarzana and the Canalbianco, an important Palaeolithic site was discovered, whilst in Gognano, one may visit the beautiful church of St. Bartolomeo, dated 1100, testimony of the presence of the Benedictine monks who first reclaimed inland Polesine.  The rowing club is a reference point for lovers of this sport and for those who wish to embark on an unusual excursion along the nearby Canalbianco.
