Giacciano con Baruchella

A Commune of the high Polesine comprising of two towns, Giacciano, Baruchella and the hamlet of Zelo, situated on the river Tartaro and the canals Fossa Maestra and Scolo Malopera, which flow in part, in the riverbeds of two ancient courses of the Adige, Rotta del Castagnaro and Rotta del Malopera, respectively.  Its bank sides are a true oasis thanks to luscious woodland rich in plants and trees and home to a variety of wildlife.  For those who love walking and fishing, this area is an ideal and peaceful refuge.

In the spring, on foot or on horseback, the route of the Fossa Maestra from Baruchella to Trecenta offers the visitor the unmistakable perfume of the flowering robinia (false acacia) which decorates the riverbanks with its clusters of flowers.  The countryside that lines these waterways is mainly cultivated with vines and orchards and especially kiwi fruit.  It is to this exotic fruit that the “caminada tra i kiwi”, is dedicated; a curious non-competitive walk, held annually in June, along routes between 6 and 20 km, set among the vines and fruit trees.  At Zelo, near the Hapsburg bridge over the Tartaro, there is a dock used by tourist boats.
