Il Po di Maistra e l'estremo DeltaFrom Ca' Venier along the right bank of Po di Venezia it is possible to see the majesty of the large river close to the Adriatic sea. It is the same sensation that, about the early 1700, one could feel walking along the first stretch of Po di Maistra, the main branch at that time. The importance of this branch during that time, except its name, is testified by its wide banks which are almost 1 km. far one another, more or less the distance of the present banks of Po di Venezia. At the moment the real river-bed of Po di Maistra is scarcely 100 metres long and what left of the ancient river-bed is lost, in the long run, covered with a luxuriant vegetation making, in its present senile shape, an incomparable environment of beauty and suggestion. From Boccasette, close to the mouth of Po di Maistra, it is possible, following the sea bank along the valleys, to reach, across a small pedestrian bridge, the homonymous beach and realize about the slow and relentless formation evolutive process of the Delta sometimes advancing sometimes regressing. If we suppose to walk along a beach, which did not exist only a century ago, we can imagine the possible landscape that, in a hundred years' time, will be seen in this same place. From Ca Zuliani, with a short extension of itinerary, which is worth doing, we approach the village of Pila, close to the homonymous lighthouse, and we can observe, in boundless cane fields, the most recently advanced areas towards the sea: the extreme Delta.
